In the world of productivity, consistency is pretty much one of the fundamentals concept to have a productive life and arguably the most important one. It is also the one of the misunderstood ones. How does someone define consistency? Starting from definition, consistency refers to a behavior of an individual that is able to stick to a process, style, entity, belief, cognitive thinking, etc. It has so many contexts, that I will narrow down it to the relevant parts for having a Happy and Productive Life.
Context 1: Productivity
Now how does consistency comes in on the context of Productivity? Well, in the recent decades the workload of an individual has shifted dramatically towards digital work instead of manual labor. Even though it has solved many issues including mismanagement of resources due to bottlenecked systems, errors in data collection, or other more issues, it did not solve one of the fundamental issues towards Productivity, which is willpower (this drives the consistency factor of an individual). I have read a book (and still not finished reading) called "Getting Things Done" which considered by many productivity gurus to be "The Bible of Productivity" and pointed out the 3 key problems we have right now in the modern workplace.
This book is actually a good read and I suggest you should read it. In his book he mentioned this (tl;dr this is only a paraphrase):
Problem we Encounter in the modern workplace
Too much demand, not enough resources
Works recently does not have a clear boundary
Our Jobs are constantly shifting and changing
On the third world countries, the situation is considerably much worse, including lackluster pay or even no pay on the amount of workload done and the fact that we can only do one thing at a time, this tends deplete our motivation towards workload. Like many things that involve multiple people in different backgrounds, environments, it is complicated to solve this in a single passage. I digress I'm only here to bring light to problems what people might encounter to their day-to-day lives; not to solve organizational problems and their fundamental flaws.
On an individual level, there are 3 things we need to consider to overcome these problems posed by modern world. These are, the Process, Action Management, Actually starting the process. In a nutshell, these 3 work in conjunction to one another and it works pretty well if it is consistent on the fundamental level. By what I mean consistent in this context, I mean you will be able to maintain the drive in working something to have a much smoother and be more effective in working at something. This applies in all aspects of life that includes working; writing something, making a song, administrative works, you name it. I would be willing to make a Passage based on the 3 Problems of the Modern Workplace because of this. It is quite interesting honestly.
However, The Process, Action Management, the prime challenge of actually doing stuff, will all be for nothing if we do not consider clarifying our problems, because the lack of clarity is the problem that impedes action.
Context 2: Relationships
Now how does Consistency comes in on the context of Relationships? Honestly, it depends on the level of Relationships of an Individual toward another one; but there are few similarities towards one another.
First point being, the feeling of companionship; one may say good friends have time for each other no matter the situation. This is flawed in many ways and does not include factors such as the following, mental health factors, cultural norms, personal factors, and other more factors that will affect one's decision toward a situation. Well how is consistency related here? Being consistent toward someone friend are the one's who still know you and act the same toward you despite how long you guys have been separated from each other and treat you with the same level of respect like the old times with each other; either as a friend or as your significant other. You treat them like how others treat you, like how stoics see the world.
Second point being, the level of trust. A person considers somebody a good friend if they entrust you with something that makes an individual vulnerable or exposed, with this in mind there is an unspoken rule governed by morals that obligates you to respect one's decisions, choices due to their beliefs, philosophies, and cultures. Being consistent does not mean you will always tolerate their actions though, in that case, you shouldn't be like an angry bull criticizing one's actions. Always remember, never let your emotions get ahead of you, because at the end of the day emotions are fleeting and the person is a permanent entity up until its death. It’s the sentiment “we should not have no temper or had no fear. It’s that they controlled those emotions and replaced them with love”.
And the Third point being, the perception of affection toward someone; This matter is pretty subjective honestly due to the ambiguity of affection in some situations. But the general rule of thumb is, good friends have this like chemistry of relationship where someone actually loves one individual as the person they see it no matter if they are only friends, bf/gf, companionates, or colleagues. Consistency on this sector focuses more on the individual side of things rather than the relationship due to its subjective nature, but it is for the goodness of everyone involved because, this is where people tend to misinterpret things a lot. Emotions take a great part on interpreting it and this is where we should control ourselves to not jump to conclusions easily. Assess the situation, Assess it.
Conclusion
Consistency in things vary from context to context and to have a happy, productive and healthy life and relationships, we need to understand 2 contexts of where Consistency drives in this sector mentioned above; being Consistency in the workplace and Consistency in Relationships.
